Lumarco is a food manufacturing business based in George which was established in 2013 by Frank Balanco. Frank co-manages the business with his wife, and they both have a wealth of experience in the industry. Lumarco started with the packaging and distribution of fruit-based desert sauces as well as the processing of dehydrated garlic both under the Fun kit brand. In 2017 they added the distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables in the Western Cape. The company now operates as a distribution agent for a variety of product manufacturers and producers of fresh fruit and vegetables including the likes of Group 35 Foods, Bos Ice Tea and Tsitsikamma bottled water.

The business experienced numerous challenges these included increasing awareness of their product; increasing production capacity; and the implementation & certification of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification (FSSC22000) as well as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) as required by their target market. The Seda Business Advisor conducted a diagnostic assessment to assist the business with strategic business advice after which the client was assisted with interventions which would take their business on a growth trajectory.

Seda assisted Lumarco with the Foundation for Food Safety Certification (FSSC22000) Systems Implementation, and E-Marketing.

This increased sales by a margin of 31%, in-turn increasing the net profit by an astounding 273%. "From our first contact with Seda we were impressed with the level of expertise of the Seda Eden Branch in assisting us with a better understanding of what our business needed to ensure expansion", says Frank. "The FSSC 22000 certification was a critical element in growing our business as well as ensuring that we deliver products of high quality to consumers. As far as the e-marketing is concerned, Seda assisted in establishing our long overdue website and Facebook page. In today's business environment these are essential elements in promoting products and services. We are very grateful for the assistance we received."
