La Pearl Boutique Hotel is owned by Mr Kubukeli and has the capacity to accommodate up to 100 people. It is a first black and privately owned hotel to compete with established multinationals in the Mthatha area. As a new business competing for a market share of the visitors arriving in Mthatha, the business needed to market and distinguish itself in order to get business. Following Seda’s intervention the business turned over R1.1 million in the first year of operation through extensive marketing and distinguishing itself from competitors ensuring occupancy rates of between 70%-80%. The business has created 21 jobs.
